We learn from Isaiah that God's love is steadfast. In the life of Paul, we see that steadfastness in action. Despite all the ways that Paul worked against the will of God, the Lord's love for him and for us never wavers. Like Paul, we are guided to the love of Christ in this Lenten season.
Jesus laments over Jerusalem. He is lamenting not for a city, but a people who reject prophets and will kill Him shortly. He has no fear or animosity toward the rulers, but sadness for His people who do not understand who He is, and what He is here to do. Of all the wonders that Jesus accomplishes because of His divinity, this reading is a reminder of Jesus’ humanity as He shows deep concern and compassion for His people.

What can we learn about Jesus being tested in the desert? We can learn that this was not about taking a one-time test, but rather understanding who His identity is, what His purpose for coming to earth was, and ultimately that He will always worship and serve the Lord no matter the circumstances. We also learn that like Christ, Satan will continue to knock on our doors as Children of God. But thanks be to God, Jesus has already defeated sin, death, and the devil.
