Last fall, God redirected a plan (as He often does), and made us aware of some basic needs of our neighbors just down the street. Coats were needed, and mostly by children! A few OSLM members were rallied, and donated funds provided all the new coats,…plus pajamas, and a few consumable necessities.
It was suggested that we “adopt” these neighbors and reach out in love on a regular basis. The next outreach was for some backpacks and school supplies that were still needed mid-year. A few more consumables were also purchased, and the Preschool families collected socks. For a personal touch, some members also made homemade cookies/breads for each household.
Most recently, a generous grant was awarded by the OSLM Endowment committee, and, along with additional donations, the focus of this distribution was specifically on consumables, ensuring that each household received necessary paper towels, TP, toothpaste, dish soap, bar & liquid soap, sanitizing wipes, laundry detergent, and some diapers.
All gifts have included some info regarding our service times and Christmas or Easter opportunities, as pertinent, or just greetings “In the name of Jesus” from “Your Neighbors,” on OSLM postcards.
We will probably help out about three times a year. Donations for “The Neighbors” are NOT processed through the church office, and are not tax deductible. If you wish to be added to an email list to hear about opportunities to help, please contact Laura Gong.
