Course: Genesis: In the Beginning
Course Information
For so many of us, we are used to the advent journey beginning with the great prophecies of the Old Testament. We are used to the words of Isaiah, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." We know the words of Micah when he said, "But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days." The other common starting point for Advent is to begin with the stories of Mary and Joseph, Elizabeth and Zechariah, the Angel Gabriel and John the Baptist.
These are all great places to start. They are valid. However, each of these present a challenge. They are coming into the story midway through. As we know with any good book or movie, you have to know the beginning of the story to fully appreciate what is going on. So even before we reach Advent this year, lets' start at the beginning, the very beginning and see how this story we celebrate began. It's a journey back to page 1.
