God's Word is foundational to growing as a disciple of Christ. Yet, we know that life can get busy and that not everyone is able to meet when Bible studies are offered. The classes below have been created with that in mind. Jump in and learn at your own pace. Then click the "Join the Discussion" button to interact with others walking through these growth opportunities.
For so many of us, we are used to the advent journey beginning with the great prophecies of the Old Testament. We are used to the words of Isaiah, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." We know the words of Micah when he said, "But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days." The other common starting point for Advent is to begin with the stories of Mary and Joseph, Elizabeth and Zechariah, the Angel Gabriel and John the Baptist.
These are all great places to start. They are valid. However, each of these present a challenge. They are coming into the story midway through. As we know with any good book or movie, you have to know the beginning of the story to fully appreciate what is going on. So even before we reach Advent this year, lets' start at the beginning, the very beginning and see how this story we celebrate began. It's a journey back to page 1.
Digging Into the Bible is an exploration, verse by verse, and chapter by chapter of the Bible with a special focus on helping parents teach the Bible to their children.
The Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7 is likely the most famous sermon that Jesus ever preached. Yet, despite being so well known in general, the Sermon on the Mount is not always well understood. This Equipping Thursday series unpacks the sermon from the Beatitudes to the house built upon the rock.
The catechism has been a foundational tool in teaching the Christian faith across generations. Yet, too often the catechism is treated as a tool to be used during confirmation class and then placed on the shelf thereafter. This series explores three of the six chief parts from Luther's Small Catechism, focusing on the 10 Commandments, Apostles' Creed, and Lord's Prayer. Each part is an essential foundation for our faith and something that Luther emphasized ought to be revisited in the Christian home with regularity.
There are a great many things that a capable of causing us to fear. Yet, God instructs us many times in Scripture to "fear not." In this series, we will explore how it is that God casts out our fear, enabling us to live lives of faith over fear.
This Equipping Thursdays series runs parallel with our Advent worship series on "Jesus the son of..." We are specifically taking a look at the women in the genealogy of Jesus. This week we will begin with Tamar and the rather unorthodox way in which God preserved the lineage of Jesus.
