Procedures Regarding Expourse and or a Confirmed Case of COVID-19

Please review Alameda County  K-12 Classroom/Indoor COVID Student Close Contact Steps:  (below is a summary of the flowchart that is provided by the county that we are expected to follow)

Vaccinated Staff member /student

  •  If symptom-free can participate in school
  • If not experiencing symptoms, the staff/student member DOES NOT NEED TO QUARANTINE at home and should self-monitor for symptoms for 10 days.
  • If experiencing symptoms, the staff member and student must isolate themselves at home, inform their healthcare provider and the school, and take a COVID-19 test.

Not Vaccinated Student
When students are both Fully Masked

  • If symptom-free can participate in school
  • If not experiencing symptoms, and both students were fully masked, a student who was in close contact can attend school as long as the student: remains symptom-free, AND continues to mask appropriately, AND gets tested two times a week during a 10-day quarantine (preferably on Day 6 and Day 8), however. Tests will be provided by OSLS and administered by parents/or office staff. Tests results will be required for students/staff to return to campus.

Not Vaccinated Student
When One or More students are Not Fully Masked

  • Immediate quarantine at home for 10 days
  • Student in close contact MUST QUARANTINE at home until one of these two criteria are satisfied:

1. The home quarantine can end after Day 10 (from the date of last exposure) if the student remains asymptomatic.

OR

2. The home quarantine can end after Day 7 if a specimen collected on Day 5 (from the last date of exposure) is COVID-19 negative.

What do I do if my child has to quarantine because of a COVID exposure or positive?

  • Your student’s teachers will post and communicate all relevant assignments and coursework for her/him via the Google classroom and/email as is our normal procedure for any prolonged absence.
  • Please note that we will not offer any type of online instruction. This is consistent with what was communicated to the families on August 13, 2021.

If a student or employee has had close contact (defined as living in the same house, being a caregiver, or being within 6 feet of an individual for longer than 15 minutes) with a confirmed COVID-19 case the following actions are to be taken:

  • DO NOT COME TO SCHOOL or if symptoms develop while at school, the student or employee WILL BE SENT HOME IMMEDIATELY
  •  The student and employee will be excluded from school for 10 days from last exposure
  •  Testing is recommended (but will not shorten 10-day quarantine)

NOTE: For privacy reasons, student medical information will NOT be shared with faculty or staff by the school; however, the student and families are welcome to do so with each teacher at their discretion. The office staff and teachers will work collaboratively to provide the student with any support necessary.

NOTE: Weekly testing is required for unvaccinated and incompletely vaccinated workers per the California Department of Public Health.

As we continue to navigate the twists and turns that COVID-19 brings, our commitment to the health and safety of our community remains at the forefront of our minds. We extend our prayers to all families affected by COVID-19. As a community, may we all offer each other grace as we continue to live through this pandemic together.
