Advent Sermon Series - Awaiting Grace

Wait.  It may be one of our least favorite things to do, and yet waiting is at the heart of the Season of Advent.  As we wait, we remember and join with the people of the Old Testament waiting for the Messiah to come and bring the salvation for which they longed and dreamed about.  As New Testament people we await the second coming of Jesus when He will come and bring an end to this veil of tears so that we might have life together with Jesus as it was always meant to be lived.   And so we live our lives awaiting grace, but even in the waiting, there is grace.  This Advent, we will explore together what it looks like to live Awaiting Grace.

We’ll present two short films, “The Messengers,” and The Shepherd,” (the original pilot for The Chosen), superbly written, acted, and filmed by the creators of the hit TV series “The Chosen.”  Best for ages 12 and up (use parental discretion).  Great for a date night, too!  Come enjoy the show and some popcorn!

  • OSLM will again be beautifying the sanctuary with poinsettias for Christmas! Please place your order any Sunday during coffee hour, beginning November 27.

  • As prices for nearly everything are going up, each poinsettia will be $12.00 this year.

  • You may provide your poinsettia in honor or memory of a loved one or special occasion. Forms for that option will be provided as you order.

  • The poinsettias will remain in the chancel through the Christmas Day service. After that, you may bring yours home. Thank you for helping to make our worship space beautiful in honor of the Newborn King!

Christmas in the Sanctuary

Part of the joy at Our Savior each Christmas is seeing the wonderful visuals that help us celebrate the birth of Christ. It takes many hands to prepare for Advent and Christmas – you are invited to help with this effort and the blessing that helping provides! See below for all of the specifics.

  • Bring your ownership-labeled nativity set to the church office now and any time before and during early Advent. On Sunday, November 20, you can leave your set with Kris Back in the sanctuary. Large and small, locally made or from distant places – all sorts are welcome.
  • On Saturday, November 26, 9:00 am, we will put up Christmas trees, hang wreaths, and set up all the nativity sets. If you have an hour or two that morning, we will welcome your assistance! Young and old are invited to lend a hand.
  • You may set up your own set if you bring it in after November 26.

Christmas Concert

At 2:00 PM on Sunday afternoon, December 11th, join the choirs and instrumentalists of Our Savior Lutheran Ministries:  Our Savior Choir, Our Savior Ringers, Women’s Ensemble, Our Savior Brass, and Instrumentalists, as we gather together to present an afternoon of Christmas music and carols centering our hearts and minds around the message of the angels: “Gloria in Excelsis Deo”.

Christmas Caroling

Join us as we spread Christmas cheer to some of the homebound in our community. We will meet in the fireside room at 4:00 pm to prepare cookie containers to bring along and share. If you wish to donate cookies, please drop them off in the ministry center kitchen. Any questions, please contact Dorcas Yow.
